On Nov. 10, 2010, Jingjiang College organized the Jiangchao Cup Debate. Hundreds of students and teachers packed the hall fully and the final debate opened its prologue to warm applause.
The Mengxi champion team and the main campus champion team debated over the hot topic, “Whether the 360 Safeguide and Tencent dispute should be the progress of network development in China”. Firstly, the contestants on both sides took a stand. Then, in the second and third rounds, both contestants made some really good arguments and demonstrated excellent logical thinking and eloquence. In the last round, the fourth member of each team cited proof methods to clarify their arguments. After the last questioning session, the judges gave a comprehensive evaluation and announced that the Mengxi team had won the final championship, and that the second member of the other team had been awarded the Best Debater.
The Jiangchao Cup Debate provides a platform for college students to express themselves and practice their abilities through a multi-layered selection process. It also awakens students’awareness of current social issues and encourages them to analyze the problems outside of class. It also answers the question of how to harness the spirit of teamwork, while allowing the personal development of the individual to flourish.
